Matchbox 2010 - Porsche 914

I normally do not troll the Hotwheels or Matchbox aisle unless something like Batman, Star Trek or that damn elusive Ghostbusters Ecto-1 happens to be there.

But when I saw this featured in a post on Big Boss Toys, I knew that I would own one, is not a couple. That just happens to be the case.

I have always loved the look of the 914, released in 1970 through 1975, 914's were an effort by Volkswagon and Porsche to make an affordable Sports car. Which is funny now because besides the Porsche 356, it's one of the most expensive as far as buying parts for.

How do I know? I used to have an awesome little 1972 Porsche 914. We called her "the Mistress". My wife laughed when I picked these up cause I said, you know if I only collected 914 toys I would only have four or five in my collection to date. That wouldn't count a real 914-6 though, I would love to own one of these.

reads "VW Porsche 914, 71" dated 2009, though it's part of the 2010 collection

I'm wondering if my dad will check this post out, and if he'll recognize the signal lights, though the ones on the back would be wrong if you are going for a European look for this car. Also I'm a little rusty but I do not think the 71 had the driving lights in the bumper, of course it's been a while and that might have been the year they came out. Besides the paint color this could pass as little model of mine. Even the seats inside are what a 914's actually look like, though this one has the optional center console around the shifter.

You can't see it very well in the pictures, but it even has the little 914 badge on the rear end, it's just missing the "PORSCHE" letters on the engine bonnet.

This reminds me of all the fun times my father and I had working on the ole' 914. I regret ever having to sell her. I hope she's still going out there. Though I miss my 914, I enjoy the air conditioning in my Jeep, but if I ever went down the road of fixing up another old Porsche the 914 and 356 are at the top of my list.

I'm not a car guy, but I prefer Matchbox to Hot Wheels. Hot Wheels are too "Scooby Doo Wacky Racers" for me.

THX CB for the link =)... unlike other collectors i´m a car guy & i’ve loved cars since my infancy, so this is great for me & if this toy brings back good memories for u, the better... i disagree with those who put Matchbox over Hotwheels (though some old MatchB r awesome) & lately HW does a better work in many models than MB... i’ll try to publish an old & a bit scratched Matchbox of my brother (i took it as my heritage HEHEHE)
