Bounty Hunter: Christmas Fett

Okay, not Christmas Fett exactly, but this is the version of Boba Fett that appeared in the famed Star Wars Holiday Special. This could be considered a debut for the Fett man as this is his first appearance in media.

The figure is again a re paint of the Vintage Original Triolgy Collection figure, this time with some slight changes to his gauntlets, a new holster and pistol, and the addition of a giant tuning fork he used to poke the dragon he rode in the cartoon. It would have been cool to see the dragon realized at the scale of the figure, maybe I'll go but some play-doe. There is also the obvious color change. This figure was previewed with a much cooler animated style helmet, but for reasons unknown he got to keep the standard fett helmet. See this is why previewing figures in magazines and on the web is such a let down some times. You get your hopes up and then the figure hits and bam!

I guess it could work in reverse as well, bad looking figure, company gets feed back, and when the figure is released you get a much better product... Nah never happen.

Here's Bossk!

Another of the Vintage Original Trilogy Collection, Bossk here is really a neat representation of this character. The usual detail and articulation that you've come to expect from this sub line of Star Wars figures, Bossk does not disappoint either of these department.

Bossk is the one character from my vintage collection that I did seek out to buy from a toy show while in college, see my son and nephew beheaded my original Bossk when they were young. Something that I still to this day remind them of. Boba Fett was next in line before I stepped in. They would have had very different lives if the Fett man had fallen that day. Anyway, I always considered Bossk Boba Fett's equal, though the comics make him out to be more of a nemesis, and not to good of a bounty hunter either. Even though, as a kid, Boba and Bossk were always inseparable in my mind.

I still see these hanging around on the shelves, and I still say if I was going to get one figure out of the set this would be the one. This is by far the ultimate version of Bossk.

Stormtrooper of the Week: Part 6

I haven't forgot, just a little busy. So here he is, the Stormtroooper of the week! This has to be one of the best 3 3/4" Stormtrooper figures around. This guy is from the 2004 Original Trilogy Collection, or OTC for short. If you had to have one action figure of a Stormtrooper, this would be the one to get.

The idea behind the OTC is that the toys are re visioned versions of the classic toys complete with reproductions of the vintage packaging. Now, I'm a sucker for the vintage look on just about anything so naturally I was drawn to these. I will say this that the new interpretations of these characters are simply awesome. This little trooper is highly posable and very detailed. Hasbro really knocked it out of the park when they made this guy. If you were lucky to find one of these in the stores you would have probably paid $9.99 for him, Ebay will set you back some more. I'm not in the habit of recommending toys, but as Ferris Bueller would say "If you have the means and can afford it's primo"

To help illustrate the posability of this little jewel I snapped a few poses and composited them together in Photoshop. Before anyone says anything though, yes I realized I messed up the "M" in YMCA, I didn't catch it till I had torn down the set up and was processing the image, you get the idea though.

Would you like to learn more about the OTC, I refer you to the all knowing Rebelscum.

The Stormtroopers are coming!

Since I ended last week on a Star Wars note I thought I would throw out another bit of the Star Wars collection, and try to step it up a notch with a weekly post about Stormtroopers (Hopefully I have enough Stormtroopers to last a little while). Not just any Stormtroopers though, all from my collection and some of my favorites. Starting with one of the first Stormtroopers I have owned. I say one of the first because I had two of these guys guarding my Darth Vader at all times, but sadly TK0002 (or Frank) is no longer with us. This little guy was from the original Star Wars line from 1978, though his copyright reads 1977. I would love to pretend to know all the little ins and outs of these little toys, but all I can tell you is they were a blast back in the day, and still somewhat fun today. I know some die hard toy fan is thinking "that piece of junk doesn't have near the amount of articulation or detail that the newer stuff has!" and they would be right, but for a time these were it, and there's something about all the adventures that this little guy had that make it magical.

Here's a link to a site called Rebel Scum that I check out fairly often that has tons of information on all toys Start Wars, plus heres a link to their Vintage Stormtrooper page. Check it out when you have time.
